Frequently Asked Questions
About JTC Booster Club

Here are some of the questions people have been asking about membership and the club.

If my child is doing a theatre course at Jordan High School, are they automatically included in Jordan Theatre Company?
No, the Theatre Company is a separate activity, and an extra-curricular extension of the theatre courses. There is an application form and annual membership fee.

If my child becomes a member of Jordan Theatre Company, do I get automatic membership to the Booster Club?
No, the booster club membership is separate. There are separate application forms for this.

Do I have to join the booster club if my child is in the Jordan Theatre Company?
No, but you will miss out on:
  • the opportunity to be involved in growing Jordan Theatre Company through booster club activities and meetings,
  • hearing about things as quickly as booster club members tend to do,
  • receiving the booster club newsletter that consolidates information otherwise available from class & meeting announcements, website & social media,
  • having first opportunity to provide hands-on support to all the shows that your child is involved in,
  • having your membership listed in your LinkedIn profile,
  • forging friendships with other booster parents, and
  • being part of the Jordan theatre community.

Can I become a booster club member if I do not have a child in Jordan Theatre Company?
Yes. Membership is also open any person or business that supports Jordan Theatre Company.

How do I become a member of Jordan Theatre Company Booster Club?
Simply submit your completed membership application form and membership fee to us. You can do this online at jtctheatre.org or in person at one of our events or meetings. You can also print & post your form to us with your check – details are on the form. You can get a print & post form at jtctheatre.org or by contacting secretary.jordantheatrebc@gmail.com. If none of these options work for you, please get in touch with our secretary and we’ll make a special arrangement.

Will my child definitely get a part a Jordan Theatre Company show if they are a member?
Not necessarily. Membership to Jordan Theatre Company gives an opportunity to audition for productions. Whether they are cast in a show is a matter for the theatre director. Jordan Theatre Company members will receive extra experience and guidance on audition technique.

Is there a separate fee to audition for a show?
There is no extra cost to audition but if the student is cast, there will be a small production fee (see below).

If I am a booster club member, do I get a say in what part my child gets in shows?
No, the theatre director makes casting decisions.

If I am not happy with casting decisions, can I get a membership refund?
No, that’s not how booster clubs work.

Does my child have to pay extra to be involved in productions?
Students involved in extra-curricular productions are asked to pay a small production fee for each production. This helps cover the cost of their meals during full-day rehearsals, production t-shirt and cast-party expenses. We expect each production fee to be about $50. Students may also be required to provide some costume pieces and stage make-up.

What do ticket costs cover?
Provided enough tickets are sold, ticket income from the shows will cover script royalties, sets, props, costumes, playbills, ticketing service and publicity for each show. If Covid-19 restrictions prevent us from filling all the seats, shows may run at a loss. Katy ISD does not reimburse the company for any losses it incurs. However, even if all the planned productions go ahead and sell out at full capacity, ticket costs will cover a little under half of the overall operating expenses of Jordan Theatre Company and the Booster Club. This why fundraising, volunteering and overall community support is essential for the program to run to the standard we are all hoping for.

Will my child be awarded a scholarship if they become a member of Jordan Theatre Company?
Maybe, but there is no guarantee. They will need to qualify when they are a senior. One of the criteria is membership to the Jordan Theatre Company.

If I join later in the year, do I get a discount on my membership fee?
No. The annual fee is the same whether you sign up on the first or last day of the membership year (July 1 to June 30).

If I join, do I have to volunteer?
No, volunteer (or not) as you wish. It’s fun. You meet people. You make a positive difference.

If I join, do I have to attend meetings?
No, attend (or not) as you wish.

If I attend meetings, do I have to vote?
No, vote (or not) as you wish.

Do I have to be a member to volunteer?
No, but members will tend to be offered their favorite volunteer positions first and they have a vote on how things run in the club.

Do parents get go to the banquet?
Yes, parents of JTC members can purchase adult tickets to the annual banquet and booster club members receive a significant discount on their adult ticket price.

Is the Booster Club part of Katy ISD?
No. Jordan Theatre Company Booster Club is a separate entity to Katy ISD. It is registered as a non-profit corporation. Under the club’s by-laws, the club must organize and function in a way that is consistent with the philosophy, objectives and policies of Katy ISD but it must not attempt to direct any Katy ISD staff member in any of their duties. The schedule of contests, rules of participation, method of earning letters and other criteria dealing with the inter-school program are under the jurisdiction of the local school administration. The Superintendent of Katy ISD and the Principal of Jordan High School have veto power over the club’s use of Jordan High School property and assets. The principal and theatre director have a right to be invited to, and heard at, club meetings, but they do not have a vote. The club self-determines within this framework and we work together to advance the interests of the students.

If I volunteer, do I get free gear, privileges or benefits from the booster club?
No, the IRS does not allow private inurement from volunteering with tax exempt organizations like ours. We give our time because it benefits the students in the program and advances the objectives of the Booster Club, not so any individual can get kickbacks.

Do I have to be a member to buy merchandise from your website?
No, the merchandise is available to everyone, except for personalized Yard Signs & Decals (only for Jordan Theatre Company Members) and Graduation Theatre Honor Cords (only available to graduates who qualify for them).

I don’t know anyone. I’m nervous to join.
We’ve all been in your shoes! You’ll find we are a friendly bunch, interested in keeping busy to advance the students’ theatre program. Please get in touch with our president directly and she will make sure you’re feeling welcome: [email protected]

Can I volunteer from home?
Indeed you can. There are plenty of administrative and computer-based tasks that are best done from home and make a great contribution to the club. Please let us know if volunteering from home suits your circumstances.

How will I hear about what’s happening in the club?
Mostly through email or social media. We ask for your name and email address when you sign up to become a member.

I won’t be sending my child to school until the pandemic eases. Should I wait to become a member?
You’re not alone in registering your child for virtual learning but waiting to join the club won’t reduce your membership fee, you’ll miss out on important happenings in the club & an opportunity to influence how spectacularly the program runs. You will also miss the chance to hit the ground running once your child is on campus. You can shortcut all that by securing your membership now.

Can anyone buy ad space in playbills for the productions?
Yes. We expect the prices to be as follows:
·       $250 outside back cover (full page, color)
·       $200 inside front or back cover (full page, color)
·       $150 full page
·       $100 half page
·       $50 quarter page
·       $10 per single line shout-out

Will you sell candy bouquets at the concession stands for live productions?
Provided there are volunteers to help out, yes.

Is there a Comedy Sportz team?
Not yet.  We plan for one to start in the fall of 2021. The Comedy Sportz Team will be open to all Jordan High School students (not just theatre students).

Will a t-shirt be included with membership?
No, you can purchase a t-shirt through the webstore.

Can I order merchandise anytime?
No. The webstore opens for a limited period of time at the beginning of the school year. We publicize widely to make sure members know when the store is open. Once the store closes, merchandise is manufactured and distributed. Our webstore for 2020 has closed but some surplus stock (masks and shirts) are for sale via booster club. Please contact [email protected] if interested
